History

Established in 1946 by Robert M. Riddell, a professional motor engineer, Riddells Garage has been a family-run business, offering the public quality repairs and servicing of all makes of cars to Bo'ness and the surrounding areas, for over 60 years.

Prior to starting his own business, Robert M. Riddell served his apprenticeship in another local garage and during the war worked with SMT, testing and certifying marine engines. Once the business was established, Riddell's Garage was also an agent selling bicycles, which had to be hand-built.
All types of car repairs were undertaken, which also included dismantling, machining and re-building engines etc. A recovery service was also once offered which led to some bodywork repairs but, as in all businesses changes have to be made according to demand and financial benefits to the firm, and this service was terminated some years ago.

Over the years the garage has worked on many varied and interesting vehicles, including a vintage Bentley 3.5 litre Mulliner which was shipped over from Holland by a customer for extensive body and mechanical repair work.

Now in its third generation, the Company is run by Ian Riddell Snr, Ian Riddell Jnr, Alan Riddell and Sylvia Riddell, and following in their father and grandfather's footsteps of engineering expertise, Ian Jnr and Alan have been finalists in the Top Technician of the Year Competition, sponsored by Bosch and Vauxhall trade Club, in association with Aftermarket magazine etc. They are continuing to attend the latest training offered, to enable them to keep up with today's ever-changing technology, offering in-house training when required.
Such is their reputation, the firm also give help and advice to many other local garages.

From the outset, the family were well aware of the rapid advancement in automobile engineering and have always kept abreast of the latest technology and developments, a trend which has continued today, with the introduction of the latest tools and equipment available. The Company is also an appointed Lucas Autotech Centre and a member of the Good Garage Scheme.

Quality workmanship by fully trained technicians, working in a clean and tidy environment, is considered to be top priority, and in order to maintain this high standard, it is felt that, keeping the Company to a relatively small manageable size, will ensure these standards are maintained, thus offering personal contact with the customers, which is felt to be very important.

The Company offer a service which is based on trust, competitive pricing and quality workmanship.
